Как поределить MIME-тип файла по его разрешению? (это может быть *.doc, *.xls, *.jpg и т. д.)

а создать мини БД никак?

Хм. ну просто забить в массив 'jpg' => 'image/jpg'

пардон, не поределить, а определить :) забить в массив или в БД не проблема, только где эти самые мимешки узнать можно?

На сервере находится файл mime.types. Функция работающая с этим файлом - mime_content_type().
